La Voix Singers Competition: Rules & Regulations

The La Voix Singers Competition offers an inclusive and inspiring platform for singers of all ages to develop, perform, and be recognised for their talent. These rules apply to all editions of the competition throughout the year.

1.Eligibility & Categories
  • Open to all active students of La Voix Studios unless otherwise specified.

  • Participants are grouped into age-based categories (A, B, C, D, E).

  • Category A: Ages 3–6

  • Category B: Ages 7–8

  • Category C: Ages 9–10

  • Category D: Ages 11–13

  • Category E: Ages 14 and above

  • Singers may enter the competition with more than one song, subject to time and event structure.

2. Performance Rules
  • Each song entry is treated as an individual performance.

  • All performances must be live – no miming or lip-syncing.

  • Only pre-approved backing tracks are allowed. No live musical instruments unless otherwise stated.

  • Participants must provide a USB backup of each track, even if already submitted by tutors.

  • It is essential that all backing tracks and performance elements are discussed in advance with your vocal tutor to ensure proper preparation and compliance with competition guidelines.

  • Tutors should also be consulted regarding song choice, timing, vocal technique, and any specific stage requirements.

3. Judging Criteria
  • Vocal technique

  • Voice quality

  • Song interpretation

  • Diction & articulation.

  • Song choice suitability

  • Stage presence & personality

  • Microphone handling

  • Overall performance impact

  • Judges’ scores and feedback are final and non-negotiable.

4. Awards & Recognition
  • Awards may include 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each category, Best Interpretation, Best Newcomer, Public Opinion Award, Overall Runner-Up and Winner, Grand Prix Runner-Up and Winner.

  • The Overall and Grand Prix titles are awarded based on the strength of a single performance, not the number of songs entered.

5. Blind Performance Segment (if applicable)
​

This exciting segment is available in select editions of the competition and is designed for

singers who feel ready to take their talent to the next level.

 

  • Participants interested in the Blind Performance round must first discuss and agree this with their vocal tutor, who will help assess their readiness and suitability for this format.

  • In this round, judges sit with their backs turned to the performer, focusing solely on the voice.

  • Judges may turn their chairs during the performance if impressed.

  • The first judge to turn gives feedback after the performance.

  • Judges then raise score paddles to submit their votes.

  • In the event of a tie for 1st place, a 1-minute sing-off will be held between the tied performers.

  • In the event of a sing-off, the singer would need to perform another song.

  • The winner of the sing-off will be awarded 1st place, and the other will automatically receive 2nd place.

 

This segment offers a powerful opportunity to showcase pure vocal quality and emotional delivery, without visual influence.

6. Stage Conduct & Etiquette
  • Singers must follow the event schedule and arrive on time.

  • Only singers whose performance is approaching should be in the backstage area.

  • Backstage must be kept quiet and orderly.

  • Parents/guardians are not permitted backstage unless instructed.

  • Improper microphone handling may impact scoring.

  • All participants must always follow staff instructions.

  • Disruptions or refusal to follow instructions may result in disqualification.

7. Dress Code
  • Performers must wear appropriate, modest, and comfortable attire.

  • Extravagant costumes are not required unless they are themed.

  • Proper footwear is required for safety on stage.

8. Props & Equipment
  • Props must be pre-approved by organizers.

  • Only studio-provided microphones and stands may be used.

  • Use of personal equipment must be authorized beforehand.

9. Health & Vocal Care
  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day—aim for at least 64 oz—to keep your vocal cords lubricated and reduce strain.

  • Rest your voice during and after performances. Vocal rest is one of the most effective ways to recover after heavy singing.

  • Use herbal drops mixed with warm water and honey, not taken straight—shake well to dissolve fully (optional).

  • Only use remedies under guidance from your tutor or a vocal coach, who can ensure safe and effective usage.

  • Avoid menthol-heavy lozenges and sprays, as prolonged use may dry or irritate vocal cords.

10. Tickets & Audience Voting
  • Tickets must be pre-booked via showshappening.com; no door sales unless announced.

  • Performers and children under 12 do not require tickets.

  • Ticket holders may vote for the Public Opinion Award.

 

11. How to Apply

 

12. Communication & Admin
  • All questions should be directed to the admin team at 79222001.

  • Fees and outstanding balances must be settled before the event.

  • Updates and links are shared via official communication channels.

13. Media & Consent
  • By participating, you consent to use of event photos and videos for promotional purposes unless opted out in writing.

13. Fair Play & Conduct
  • All participants must treat staff, judges, and others with respect.

  • Participants must follow all the instructions given by staff.

  • Only those about to perform should be backstage.

  • Gestures or attempts to influence judges during performances is strictly prohibited.

  • Cheering is encouraged, but fairness and sportsmanship are essential.

  • Repeated violations may result in disqualification or exclusion.

14. Amendments

La Voix Studios reserves the right to amend these rules at any time to improve the competition structure and fairness.
